Computer and Internet Upgrades (or why I'm getting behind on my studies)
Vista has been a sore point with me for a long time, pretty much since I bought my new laptop around 18 months ago after its predecessor gave up the ghost. Due to some fortuitous circumstances and my boss feeling sorry for me, I was able to afford an upgrade to Windows 7. Did the installation on the weekend and spent most of yesterday downloading software and setting up my system again. Also during the weekend, the case of the mystery parcel was solved due to some brilliant observation on my part (which wouldn't have been necessary if someone in this house would actually check the mailbox on occasion. But nobody did for a few days, which would have been fine if the letter from my ISP had been sent by regular post, but they use a private service for their letters which is why it ended in the mailbox, instead of being delivery along with the parcel and other mail when the mail man rang our doorbell. Luckily, I spotted the logo of the private mail carrier on one of the envelopes of the earlier letters sent by the ISP. Otherwise, I'd probably have made a phone call for nothing.
It took some back and forth to get the internet working with the new modem, but eventually it all worked out and at the speed advertised. Can't say I'm not pleased about that ;-)
However, the upshot of all that non-uni related productivity is that I'm falling behind on my studies. I have an email to sent to my tutor regarding my project proposal and I really need to get started on the assignment that's due at the end of the month. I've done the readings for the first question, but I'm still missing some for the second. Also part of this assignment is the proposal for my project which I'll need to square with my tutor first. Hence the email. I have the feeling it's going to be a busy week.
