There shall be more updated in the future
So sorry for not being around and not commenting as much as I usually do :-/ The new med dosage has really been messing with me as far as side effects go and I haven't been up to much as a result aside from stuff I really had to do (and not even all of that sometimes)

I got 86% and 97% on my last two assignments, despite not having finished all the material before starting the assignments. Still I hope I'll catch up in time. I've registered for my required residential school course, starting July 5 in Edinburgh. I still have to sort out transportation issues, but a quick search indicates that it will be much less of a problem than I thought it would be.
Fanfiction writing is going surprisingly well. But I always seem to write more when I'm not doing overly well. Strange how that works.
Two new shows have snuck their way in - Murder City (which although no longer airing still took up the better part of two days last week) and Dexter (still on the fence about it despite giving it a second chance. It's not just that it's a tad too graphic, it just has failed to 'click' so far). There are several more shows on the list of things to check out in the near future, if I ever find the time that is)

Ugh
I consider myself to be in fairly good shape. I work out on a regular basis and do quite a bit of yoga, yet I'm still totally exhausted from the run I went on with L this morning. Even my knees are sore and that never happens! I so don't feel like doing any work for uni, but I guess I'll have to since the deadline is next week and I haven't even finished my first draft. Besides, I decided that this year, I wouldn't hand stuff in so late...Speaking of late, I have fanfic and a movie review to write, but first I'm going to check out Murder City. Although I'm already getting frustrated with the camera work and I've only seen five minutes of it so far :-/

TV: Ashes to Ashes - sort of a review
I'm really not good at the whole reviewing bit, I usually leave this to people like [info]emeryboard who are actually witty and know what they are talking about. I did borrow some of her format. You know what they say: imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Or something like that.

Mixed Bag. Spoilers for 1x01 of Ashes to Ashes. )

well, since I can't sleep anyways these days...
and going to bed early last night was pretty much a bust, I might as well watch TV tonight. It's weird, since there is no relying on my favorite US shows at the moment, I've started to check the TV guide on a regular basis.

As for tonight's offering: Ashes to Ashes doesn't really sound all that great - I mean, we kind of saw this before (although that seems to be the point of the premise). But since it's sci-fi-ish and one can never have enough sci-fi, I'll probably check it out.

Speaking of sci-fi, I have been re-watching some EFC episodes for a fic that I'm writing and it makes me almost sad to see how a perfectly good, even interesting premise was made into something which, apart from the first season maybe, is a total waste of time. I guess you never know ;-) The Gateverse, which revolves around a, at least to me, much less interesting premise / central idea than say EFC, turned out way better, even the recent seasons of SGA.

Plus, Trial and Retribution, unfortunately on at the same time, will probably be interesting if the first part was anything to go by.

x-posted to my other journal, where this entry probably belongs ;-)

Old Sci-Fi and New Sci-Fi
After several failed attempts to get my mother into Stargate, Babylon 5 and Doctor Who, I wasn't holding out much hope for Raumpatrouille Orion (short-lived German sci-fi series from the sixties). But much to my surpise, when I pulled out the DVDs I had rented on New Year's Eve, we both loved it and watched three episodes in a row :-)

It's totally cheap (we never even got to see the evil aliens they are fighting and the sets seem to have been assembled out of household appliances) and there are more science mistakes than I could ever point out, but it's kind of cool. In a very retro-ish way. Shame there are only seven episodes. Seen four so far, and I can't wait for them to send me the second DVD. It's nice to be this excited about TV once again.

And some sci-fi from this millenium. Vague spoilers for SGA S3 and (S4, sort of). )

What TV I have been watching this season (and some TV I haven't been watching)
Normally, that's reserved for my fannish journal, but since I spend considerable time watching TV, I figured it's good for this one as well :-)

Opinions in brief - not many actual spoilers. )

There probably is more, but I can't think of anything right now.

Had a very 'blah' day today
Even TV was a waste of time and I hardly ever come to that conclusion
but tonight's 'Der letzte Zeuge' was just plain bad. Spoilers, obviously. )

Maybe the reruns on Monday are better.

The replacement display allegedly shipped on Wednesday. I hope it gets here tomorrow or no Doctor Who, again. Sis was home sick the last two days so I hardly ever got to do actual work on her computer. I have to finish that online multiple choice test this weekend.

The meme which proves that you watch too much TV
I'm actually making a list of fics that I want/need to read because I tripping over promising sounding stories posted on various lists and/or recced by people and I don't have the time to read any fanfiction. Since I already have a list of TV shows and movies that I need to watch if I ever get around to it (and some items have been on the list for over a year), so a reading list didn't seem like too far out.

I do realize that I have simply to many fandoms and even substracting all the fandoms that haven't produced any fanfiction that I can find (amazing since there is such as a thing as Bible!fic), I can't quite wrap my head around the fact that at some point in time, I have watched all that stuff.

I think I have done this meme before, but it was just too much fun. )

TV and the rest of real life
SGA update here

I think I get younger with age...or I'm just mentally regressing.

I have fallen out of love with TV. I just don't think its worth effort to watch anymore. After Without a Trace and Stargate Atlantis went down the drain, everything else just kind of followed. It must have been watching CSI with my mother to open my eyes to the relative stupidity of it. (okay, so Mom thinks that sci-fi is stupid, period. The only thing she likes is Cordially Yours and soap operas)

No offence to anyone who still is a fan. Maybe I'm just having a down phase :/ But TV used to me a lot more fun.

Misc Stuff )

Sidenote: The harddrive seems to work fine after all. The plug-in-into-the-wall thingy seems to be broken. Shame, it was pretty handy and it sucks having to sit in the basement to use the internet. Ordered new ones for replacements.
