GAH!!! I blame S2. And Jack's hair -- seriously -- because who could ever imagine anything J&S 'shippy with the hair as it is now. :shudder:

And to me, there's no point to Jack/Maria stories. At all. I get why people write M/S, but I mean...why waste the bandwidth on a character we've seen three times and a "'ship" that already exists?! :bang: [/rant]

Then you know more than I do *G* Seriously that is the one 'ship that is mystery to me.

I could see how Jack/Maria has a point if it is used in conjunction with the relationship between Jack and Samantha to contrast to two and explore the feelings of Maria, Samantha dn Jack. But that's just about the only way I can think of to maybe make it work in a fic.

The point that, to me, makes a 'ship worth writing about is conflict, be it between the two people in the 'ship or be it between the 'ship and the environment which stands against the 'ship. True, there is conflict between Maria and Jack, but it's destructive conflict, nothing that you can build on. To make a 'ship work, there has to be both a conflict element and an attraction element. It's the (uneven) balance that makes things interesting, IMHO. Samantha and Jack have that attraction, but they also have conflict from outside sources (their positions at the FBI, Jack's marriage). And good fic tends to revolve around, attraction, conflict and the emotions that come from the two. Martin/Samantha first of all, at least to me lacks the attraction between the characters and also the built-in conflic element. Sure fanfic can artifically create (far less effective conflict), but there is none on the show really. That's why I don't really get that ship.[/longwindedtheory]

Okay, I've bored you enough now.

Oh, I can see that too. I'm probably talking about the same story you read. What I don't understand is the point of writing "fluffy" J/M fic -- fic where they're happy and in love :yuck: To me, that's ridiculous. Unless you're trying to disprove J&S -- in which case, you have an ulterior motive.

I enjoy seeing Maria in stories used as a foil, her relationship with Jack used as a foil -- but I absolutely do not understand why people would ever want to write her and Jack as a legitimately happy couple (not just tolerating each other -- I mean just...happy). Those stories are the waste of bandwidth, IMHO.

But they're soooooo pretty together, illman!! They're sooooooooooo cute and adorable -- and isn't that the basis for every 'ship? [/sarcasm] Sadly, I think that is the whole point. ;)

[ot]Can you e-mail me the password and URL to your site when you put up 2x18? Or can you DL directly from your LJ? It's just the one ep I haven't gotten to watch yet. :( [/ot]
