The matter of the rug
After the immediate threat (flooding) was contained by me turning off the water, I'm somewhat stumped for ideas. I have a very wet rug that's starting to smell, no place to dry it properly and I have a broken washing machine that starts spitting out water the moment I turn it on again. I guess I'll have to call a mechanic either on Monday or after the holidays and hope that I don't run out of clean clothes until then. Yeah, that sounds like a plan ;-) No idea what to do about the rug though. I don't want to throw it out but I don't want to starting to rot either.

Hmm.. Glad you got the water off. As for the rug, maybe ask your family/friends/neighbours to wash it for you? Get it dry-cleaned at some point? You could just dry it over a radiator.

Hopefully you've got enough clean clothes to last for a week or so, calling out a washing machine repair guy over Christmas/New Year is just asking for a HUGE bill and i'm sure that's best avoided! :P I know you're smarter than me in most things but it might be possible that the repair of the washing machine + repair guy call our charge + labour might be equal to the cost of a new machine. So keep that in mind maybe?

Hope you can still manage to have an AWESOME Christmas. Do they have Christmas markets and such where you are?

I'm not the most practical person around, so I appreciate your advice! I already put two small heaters next to the rug, so it should dry up at some point then I'll see in how much need for cleaning it really is.

Luckily, I did a large load of laundry earlier this week, so it might just last me into next year.

We do have Christmas markets here, although I haven't really been to one this year yet, only walked by a couple of times. Bro and I are going to town on Monday morning to meet with some friends, so we might have a look then.
