Stupid Meds, stupid Regs (a rant)

As you might know, I have, among other health issues, rather bad ADD. Without meds, I have the attention span of a fruit fly to the point where I can't even watch TV properly because I can't focus on one thing for so long. Anyhow, meds are were the real trouble starts.

In this country, there are only two drugs approved to treat ADD, Strattera and Ritalin. Neither of them is approved for the treatment of adults with ADD, so my insurance doesn't have the pay for them. That's not so bad, as compared to some of the other stuff I'm on, they aren't too expensive. I was on Strattera first, and it worked for about a year, then stopped working. Apparently, that's not so uncommon. Since last winter, I've been on Ritalin. Side-effects aside, it is working to a certain degree. I have read some articles suggesting that it too stops working after some time, at least for part of the people taking it, but that's something I'll worry about if and when it does stop working for me. It's already a major hassle, that's for sure though. It's considered a control substance according to the law here and you can only get it on a special prescription form that you have to fill in person. You can also only get 30 days worth of pills at one time, forcing me to see my doc ever month instead of every 6 to 8 weeks like before. Not nice at all.
