Fortunatly it didn't get closed, I just figured that it isn't workable anymore. Too many people abuse the site (giving out the pw, downloading things multiple times, generally being obnoxious when things don't work). Plus the archives eat about 80GB per month :/ Thanks for the offer though. I'm still trying to figure out what to do from here.

You know something, if you bought a paid enterprise account that allowed upwards of 80GB per month transfer rate
Streamnload works pretty much along the same lines, I pay for how much is downloaded, so it is not really a probvlem with how much transfer the site generates, it's mainly a money problem since it costs me around $60 per month depending on how many new eps there are.

I have at one point looked into other webhosts, but didn't really have much luck. Do you know any good ones?

Looks like the cost is quite similar to streamload :/ Service wise streamload has been pretty good in the recent past, after a rocky summer ;) And donations have been very sparse in the past. [/whining]

I'm wondering if there is a way to set up an archive where you have to pay to download without actually breaking any more laws than you are already breaking. That would probably really illegal - not that the other stuff is actually legal *g*
I'm not based in the US, so I'm not doing any digital recording myself as it is. I don't even have TV here. I get all my files from the internet (or from internet acquaintances)

The cost for the site would normally be no problem for me, it's just that i had to buy a new computer after the old one died. That's why I'm pretty much broke at the moment. So the situation should fix itself with time.

Other possibilities are of course being more strict about whom to give the password for the sites (and excluding people who could watch the shows on TV) or setting a fixed traffic limit for the month and once it's used up the site is simply off-line for the rest of the month. But all not very good solutions.

I'll probably give this issue more thought once winter break finally starts.

I'm sorry to hear about that.
Instead of hosting a remote archive like streamload, have you considered using your harddrive as your server over which you have more control? Of course you wouldn't have to pay anything extra because you're just using local bandwidth provided by your ISP.

Re: I'm sorry to hear about that.
I had considered that, but since I've already gotten into trouble over excessive usage of network resources (I'm accessing the internet via the uuniversity network), I don't think it would be a good idea.
Not sure what to do, but I'm definetly planning on keeping the archives in some form.

And I'm going to stick with streamload, mainly because of this *G*

Re: I'm sorry to hear about that.
Oooh, neato. *G*

My university network allows 1GB of transfer/week = pain, which is why I switched to cable. Now I'm spending at least 150GB/month.
(still considering shrinking my avi's to <150MB versions like you and cap my speed to like...8kb/s *G*).

Anyhoo, good luck with whatever you're trying to pursue. I really appreciate what you do. :)

Just passing on through from Caroline's f-list, but I just wanted to thank you for all the effort you put into the archives. I hope people don't give you too much hassle for something you have no control over, and I for one would be happy to give a PayPal donation if that's what it took to keep it going, if you ever decided to take that path. Being in the UK, I especially appreciate the WaT archive, because we don't get it over here.

Thank you again, and I hope it all turns out okay. In the meantime, don't stress yourself over it; everything turns out okay in the end.

Heee. I know. I live in the UK as well (most of the time anyways), and I'm still wondering why they haven't picked up the show yet. It does air in other countries in Europe. It's somewhat disturbing in the German and French dubbed versions *g*

Have you thought about only hosting the latest episodes of both shows for a limited amount of time (say one week or until the next new episode airs)?

That's too bad. I hope everything gets sorted out so that you can have whatever you want on the net. You're really good about caring about others and what clips etc. they need but take care of yourself too. You do so much.
